Pinteresting News

Ok, I think we all have our heroes right?  Well, I have teacher heroes. They are teachers that inspire me to be a better educator.  Well today when I was on Pinterest I was scrolling down my wall and found that a couple of people that I follow pinned one of my Monday Made It projects.  As if that wasn't exciting enough, I then looked to see who had pinned it...it was Amy Lemons!! She is one of the most amazing teachers ever! Not only that, next to her name I saw that it was repinned from Cara Carroll!

Should I be this excited?  I don't know, but it sure made my day!

And onto some more exciting news.  It looks like I'm going to be the Guest Pinner for We Are Teachers next week starting on the August 6th.  Make sure to follow them because they have excellent teaching resource pins to share.

Thanks for stopping by and come back tomorrow for another Wonderful Resource Wednesday-That title is kind of long. I'm thinking I may change it to Want It Wednesday instead.  I'm not sure though:)

Monday Made It- Owls!

I'm linking up for the fourth time with Tara at 4th Grade Frolics!  I love Mondays!

I got around to making something that I have needed for years but didn't even know I needed it! Pinterest, thank you!

My library consists of hundreds of books.  Every so often they start to fall apart.  When this happens my kids freak out!  They stop everyone around them and come and get me to fix it for them that very second.  This will happen no more thanks to this:
It's a book hospital!  So when a child finds a book that needs some repairs, they can put it in this bin and I can fix it when there is time.

Here is a side view.  I wanted it to match my Box Tops holder I made a few weeks ago.  This was my FIRST time using Mod Podge.  It was tricky but not as difficult as I thought it was going to be.  A word of warning, make sure you create things in good lighting.  I was kind of in the dark making this and I thought this paper was bright pink. Imagine my surprise when I took a picture and the flash showed it as purple! Still looks cute though.

This is what it started as:
It's just a book bin from Lakeshore.

This is where my inspiration came from:

I somehow ended up with an owl theme.  It all started with my owl binder covers and it evolved into an all out owl classroom.  I finally was able to get into my classroom and got to hang up some of the new goodies I put together from my Owl Themed Class set.

Owl-Phabet

Table Number Signs

Name Plates

I am loving these owls so much!  My kids write letters weekly and I wanted to make some cute stationary to go with our theme.
You can pick up a set HERE.

Thank you for stopping by! Now head over to 4th Grade Frolics and link up your projects:)

Wonderful Resource Wednesday #3 - Erin Condren Life Planner

This has been one busy week!  I'm back at school fixing up my room and tons of stuff has been going on.

I meant to have this posted on Wednesday but time escaped me.

Today I showing you all the great things about the Erin Condren Life Planner.  I ordered it in early July and received it mid month.  Everyone needs to get one of these!

This is what mine looks like:
It's so beautiful!  This pattern called out to me right away.  It also comes in a pink and purple color color scheme.
The feathers are simple and cute.

Here is my video if you would like to take a look inside:

Totally Terrific Teacher Tools Linky Party

I am linking up with Mrs. Castro's linky all about the tools that you must have at home to create resources for our classroom!

1. Cricut
I use my baby ALL the time!  If you are a teacher, you've got to get some type of die cutting system at home.  I had a blue one and it wasn't communicating with my Gypsy (handheld design tool) and I got this pink one.

2. Printers
I have three printers at home.  A Brother laser printer that prints black and white, a Brother laser color printer, and a Kodak color printer that broke within a few months after I got it.  It has a scanner which has come in handy, so I kept it for that.

My black and white printer has been a life saver.  When I make something at home, or purchase something from TPT, it's nice to go to my printer and print it without worrying about the ink. The ink lasts for years with lots of printing every day.  The Brother color printer is another story.  It jams all the time and it has five expensive ink cartridges to replace.  It's awesome having color printing at home, but I would have liked a less stressful machine to work with. The Kodak was something I would not recommend getting.  I love that it has a scanner that I was able to salvage when the printing part of it no longer worked.  The cartridges weren't too expensive but it was ALWAYS running out of ink and that got expensive real quick.

3. MacBook
I think you will hear ever Apple owner rave about their laptops.  There are some downsides to having one, but the positives outweigh all the negatives.  It's made it really easy to create my TPT resources.  I'm sure PC's can do much of what this computer can do, but this is the first computer I've owned that was so user friendly for someone who is not a techy.  I can retouch images, create my own screenshots, and makes PDFs with the click of a mouse.

4. Crafty Tools
One of my hobbies is scrapbooking, card making specifically, and I have tons of tools for crafting at home.  All these tools have helped me tremendously to create decor for my room.
Here are some of my favorite tools:

Top: Big Shot.  This is a die cutter for your house.  It's just like the die cutters we have at school, but smaller. You can get dies for them at Hobby Lobby, Michael's, Joann's and any other crafting store.
Bottom Left: ATG glue runner. Always comes in handy!  You can glue down anything pretty much and this glue holds strong!
Bottom Right: Scrapbooking paper.  Color makes all the difference and having all these colors available is very convenient when creating decorations.

Now it's your turn to show off your goodies at home by linking up with Mrs. Castro!

Monday Made It

It's Monday Made It time!  I've been having a blast creating things and it's so awesome to be able to link up my projects with Tara at 4th Grade Frolics!

I've been making some back to school goodies for my kids.  I wanted my students to walk in and see something on their desk when they walk in the room.  I had this purse die cut and saw a way to turn it into a backpack!

Here it is:
I'm not sure what to put in there yet.  Maybe an eraser and some stickers?

I've also been working on my Angry Birds craftivity and it's finally done!
Here are some pictures of what my kids will be making:

I'm so happy with how these came out!

If you like these projects you can get them here.

Rockin' Resources Party- Part 2

The amazing Kelly from The Teacher Idea Factory is holding her second Rockin' Resources Party all about the things we can't live without.  I shared some of my faves last time in THIS post if you're interested, but now I have some new goodies to share!

1. Digital Camera
I use my little "Tiffany" for everything! I take pictures of the kids all the time and at the end of the quarter or month I make a quick slide show on my Mac and show it to the kids. Kind of like a virtual timeline.  They LOVE it!  I also use it to document my lessons to remind me of what I did for future reference. The colors Canon offers are so pretty too!

2. Erin Condren Life Planner
So I heard that these planners were beautiful, but I didn't realize how beautiful and useful they were till I got mine!  I recently started my master's and I knew I had to get organized.  I did some research and these are supposed to be the best planners.  So far so true!  I'll be doing a video next week about them if you want to take a look inside:)

3. MacBook Pro
This thing is amazing!  I recently started making things on TPT and  I am not very tech savvy but this laptop has made it so easy to create my documents.  There are many things to love, but recently the handiest things to me are: creating PDF's (The option to save as a PDF is easily accessible) and creating screen shots of any size (clicking and dragging the cursor over what I want to capture). No more need to save pictures to my computer just to re-upload.

4. Flip Camera
My BFF teaches next door to me and she got one of these Flips.  I didn't think I would use it but after seeing her in action I decided to get one.  Well worth the investment!  It shoots clear video and you can just plug it into your computer through the USB port.  When my students were putting on a play, I recorded them so that they could see themselves act.  We all had a good time watching that!  I've heard of teachers also recording their students when they are reading to show them how fluently they are reading.  There are tons of ways to use it in the classroom.

5. My Cricut
I use my Cricut all the time!  I've made tons of posters, classroom decor items, behavior clip chart, students gifts etc...It's also nice knowing that you will never run out of the right size letters for your bulletin boards!

Now head over to Teacher Idea Factory and link up your must haves!

Student of the Week Sign

It's Monday Made It Time!!

I saw a post a while ago and it "pinspired" me to create a sign with my theme.

I didn't intend on an owl theme, but there are such cute resources out there for owls that I just had to go with it.  I have a hard time sticking to just one thing though, which means I'll be throwing some other things into the mix.

Here is the sign I created with my best friend (AKA my Cricut).

It measures about 12 inches long and 11 inches wide.  I went with a leaf design to make it fit in with a woodsy owlish home.

This sign is going to be hung above the student of the week's desk from the ceiling.  I think that is going to make being student of the week even more special than before.  I can't wait to see what it's going to look like in the classroom!  I couldn't hang it from my ceiling, so just to get an idea of what it's going to look like, I hung it from my chandelier.

Here is where my pinsperation came from:
Does anyone know where this is from?  I tried following the link and it led me to a dead end.  Who ever thought of this, thank you!!

Ok, now it's your turn to link up what you created with 4th Grade Frolics!

Owl Love

I created some teacher binder covers a couple of days ago.  They turned out so cute and in the process I fell in love with these owls!  Well, I got to playing around and 10 hours later...I created a bunch of resources for my classroom.  Well, I started out with an "owl-phabet" if you will, and then ended up created name plates, table numbers, and even a student of the week pennant that would make any child feel really special.

Want a peak?
I am especially happy with how my owl-phabet turned out!  I wanted something with a fancy shape and cool tones with colorful owls.
I'm going to laminate them and cut them out.  Each card is about 7 inches by 9 inches to make sure my whole class can see the letters. The vowels are all red and the consonants are in black.  I also included lower and upper case letters because my kids need that.  Sooo excited about these!

Then I moved on to my name tags:

I like them blank because then I don't feel limited to how big or small I need to write.

My next project was table numbers:

I'm also going to laminate and cut these out so the pretty shape shows.  I'm also considering putting them on big rosettes.  Not sure though...

I even made a student of the week pennant just for fun:
This pennant can be hung above the student of the week's desk for some extra special attention :)

By the end I realized I had a whole set of things!  So I'm putting them on TPT as a set and I'm also including my Owl Teacher Binder Covers in there.
Click here to see this file on TPT.  Here is a view of the whole file:

I sold my first items on TPT yesterday! Woohoo! In the honor of my first sales, I'm putting this file up with a 20% discount till Sunday July 15th!

Edit: Yay! Thank you for pinning ladies! I saw someone with a great idea for a giveaway.  I will be giving away a copy to the first two people who Pin the above image on Pinterest and leave a comment letting me know you did.

Just like every teacher blogger, I really appreciate you taking the time to pin anything off my blog because it really helps!

Have a wonderful rest of the week and thank you for stopping by to visit!

Wonderful Resource Wednesday #1

In the past five years I have run into many good resources and many not so great resources to use with my students.  Today launches the first of my videos in a series called "Wonderful Resource Wednesday."  My goal with these videos is simply to share good finds and help you steer clear of useless resources.  I will be featuring things like books, classroom decor, TPT resources, store finds, catalog resources... basically anything that could be useful to us teachers.

Here is a picture of my product review:

*I made a mistake on my video I said that each set is $29 but they are actually $19 a piece and $115 for the entire set.

Check out my video if you want to get a detailed view of one of the sets.
